How should iron castings be cooled during processing?

In the production of iron castings, castings always need to be cold processed before they can be put into use normally. Simply put, the cooling treatment of the casting is the process of reducing the temperature of the casting from high temperature to equilibrium with the ambient temperature. However, it should be noted that before the casting is cooled, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the temperature of each part of the casting is the same. If the temperature is the same, the cooling operation can be carried out normally. Since the wall thickness dissipates heat faster than the wall thickness, if it is cooled at the same time, it may cause damage to the casting. Now I 'd like to share with you some small tips for processing and cooling of casting parts.

Now I 'd like to share with you some small tips for processing and cooling of casting parts.
1. Natural cooling
Natural cooling treatment is a very common casting cooling method, that is, the casting is placed at room temperature, through a long time of ventilation, so that the casting temperature and indoor temperature to achieve a balance process. The natural cooling cost is low, saving the reprocessing process, but it takes a long time.
2. Water cooling
Water cooling is the rapid cooling cooling, is the casting of a good casting into cold water, so that it quickly cooled to room temperature. The cooling water pipe is set on the casting mold, so that the circulating water enters the molding block or core, and the heat is taken out of the mold. The cooling efficiency of water cooling is high, which can effectively reduce the temperature of the cavity surface, and is mainly used for molds that require large heat dissipation. However, it should be noted that the temperature of the cooling water should be higher than room temperature to prevent condensation on the cavity surface. The water cooling treatment is suitable for pouring copper parts or malleable cast iron parts. But for thin-walled gray iron castings or ductile iron castings, severe cooling will increase the casting defects.
3. Air-cooled
Air cooling can be used for locations in castings that are difficult to cool with water. Air cooling is to reduce the temperature of the casting by a blower or compressed air. Air cooling can not only cool the casting mold, but also blow the coating evenly, disperse the volatile gas of the coating, and reduce the production of casting pores. Not only that, air cooling is easy to manufacture, low cost, but the cooling effect is not very ideal. The cooling temperature of air cooling is much less than that of water cooling.
There are many kinds of cooling treatment for castings, and casting manufacturers can choose the appropriate cooling method according to their own strength and casting performance. I hope that the finishing of the small series can help you understand the production of casting parts. I look forward to seeing you next time!
